The wool content acts as a dehumidifier. This means that when the real humidity is high and the temperature is low the wool fibre has the ability to generate heat (exothermic), when the ambient temperature and the real humidity is low the wool fibre has a cooling effect on the surrounding air mass. In addition to this, wool has the ability to absorb the "Volitile Organic Compounds" (VOCs) associated with "Sick Building Syndrome".
The production technology used makes it possible for THERMOWOOL to be easily torn by hand across its length, a real bonus as far as installation speed is concerned. By design, the product is unable to be torn lengthwise without the use of shears or scissors. This ensures product integrity when fixing with staples or pins to rafters, joists or wall studs.
In order to maximise thermal performance and minimise the negative effects of thermal bridging, THERMOWOOL is supplied in roll form to suit common stud and rafter spacings.
Because THERMOWOOL is supplied in a continuous roll there is no performance loss due to thermal bridging. This means that because THERMOWOOL is not installed in pieces between the framing members but effectively covers them like a blanket, there is no disruption in the effectiveness of the thermal envelope because it is a continuous thermal envelope. It is the same as if you covered your bed at night with lots of little squares or one large blanket, which would you rather have?
THERMOWOOL is a high performance insulation blanket. Virgin wool is combined with fine polyester fibres, carded, layered and then heat bonded to very exacting specifications. There are no glues used in the manufacture of THERMOWOOL. Many other insulations are bonded with glues. Glues are known to break down over time, some releasing a chemical called Formaldehyde. In 2004 the WHO re-classified Formaldehyde as being carcinogenic to humans. THERMOWOOL comes as a thick fluffy blanket and is designed to trap air between fine layers of heat bonded fibres.
In order to enhance the moisture handling capabilities of THERMOWOOL, we developed VFS(Vapour Flow System) technology.
VFS incorporates fibre technology that rapidly tranfers moisture from the higher humidity face of the product to the lower humidity face of the product, effectively reducing a dwelling's atmospheric moisture content. VFS works in tandem with the wool content enabling the wool to perform optimally as a dehumidifier enabling the humidity level to be maintained at between 50% and 60%. This makes THERMOWOOL an insulation ideally suited to climates with high and fluctuating humidity
